TKT: CLIL – An Overview

TKT: CLIL is a test of knowledge of Content and Language Integrated Learning and concepts related to a CLIL approach. It tests knowledge of the aims and rationale of a CLIL approach and knowledge of CLIL from a teaching perspective: the planning, teaching and assessment of CLIL. It also focuses on teachers’ awareness of learning demands (content, language, communication, cognition) and support strategies for learners in CLIL programmes.

 

 

Knowledge of CLIL and Principles of CLIL

 

This part of the TKT: CLIL module tests candidates’ knowledge of a CLIL approach and knowledge of the learning, cognitive, language and communication skills across the curriculum. Candidates will learn concepts and terminology related to the following:

  1. Aims of and rationale for CLIL knowledge
  2. Language across the curriculum
  3. Communication skills across the curriculum
  4. Cognitive skills across the curriculum
  5. Learning skills across the curriculum

 

 

Lesson Preparation

 

This part of the CLIL module tests candidates’ knowledge of planning, teaching and assessing curricular subjects taught through the medium of English. Candidates will learn concepts and terminology related to the following:

  1. Planning a lesson or a series of lessons
  2. Language demands of subject content and accompanying tasks
  3. Resources including multimedia and visual organisers
  4. Materials selection and adaptation
  5. Activity types and their purposes

 

 

Lesson Delivery

 

This part of the CLIL module tests candidates’ knowledge of different ways of setting up and executing lessons. Candidates will learn concepts and terminology related to the following:

  1. Classroom language
  2. Scaffolding content and language
  3. Methods to help learners develop learning strategies
  4. Consolidating learning and differentiation

 

 

Assessment

 

This part of the CLIL module tests candidates’ knowledge of different forms of assessment and ways of supporting students. Candidates will learn concepts and terminology related to the following:

  1. Focus of assessment
  2. Types of assessment
  3. Support strategies
