What does Delta involve?

The Delta Modules course can be taken at IH Bangkok full-time over a period of 8 weeks. The three modules feature a balance of theory and practice to enhance your understanding of the English language while examining in depth the principles of effective teaching and the practical skills required for teaching English.

The course includes

  • 10 hours of observed teaching practice.
  • Observation of experienced teachers in the classroom.
  • A range of practically focused written assignments.
  • An extended assignment.
  • A written examination.

There are six main units of learning

  • Understanding, knowledge and awareness of language.
  • The background to teaching and learning English at adult level.
  • Resources and materials.
  • Working in the classroom.
  • Evaluation, monitoring and assessment.
  • Professional development.

You should expect 120 contact hours with fellow candidates and course tutors and 10 hours of observed teaching practice with adults. In addition you have 10 hours of directed observation of lessons, with some of these being live lessons taught by experienced teachers.

Each of the three modules represents 20 credits (200 learning hours) under the QCA's Qualification and Credits framework, which includes the contact hours as well as guided and independent learning.

ASSESSMENT

  • Delta Module 1 is assessed via a written examination and focuses on the background to teaching and learning.
  • Delta Module 2 is assessed via a portfolio of coursework, including observed lessons, written assignments and an externally-assessed lesson observation, all focusing on practical professional development.
  • Delta Module 3 is assessed via an extended written assignment, focusing on assessment and course planning in the context of a specialist option.

GRADING

Every Delta course is modular and candidates are awarded a certificate upon the successful completion of each module. Candidates will be awarded their complete diploma upon successful completion of all three modules. There are three grades for the award: Pass, Merit and Distinction.
